Have you tried Four 4s?

This is a great activity from Jo Boaler's YouCubed site - a fantastic place for Maths activities for teachers AND students. Check it out!
 Using four 4s and different operations we managed to find sums to equal numbers 1-20. As you can see, some were easier to get than others! 
 It was great to explore and get deeper with our thinking!

    Hi Drummond class! What a great activity. It looks really challenging and I'm sure my head would have hurt with all that amazing thinking. What part was the most challenging? What was easy? Could you do it with another number?

    Good work with the numbers you will be busy with production on top of this. i found a few hard to follow but got there in the end. have you tried the 4 letter words lots of them that you can use in public too. I would imagine "boys" would be a good start or even "girl" if you were stuck!!!!
